After a lot of contemplation whether to or not to, I started blogging.
As I was thinking about what should be my first post, I realized that everything we do in life, boils down to something and that can be materialistic or intangible things (happiness/ recognition/ fame /sense of achievement/contentment etc)
For instance,
we study hard to get good scores,
we need good scores to get into good institutes,
we get into good institutes to gain good knowledge,
we gain good knowledge to get a good job,
we get into a good job to earn more money,
we earn more money to lead a comfortable life
The underlying point is that everything boils down to something.
While writing(typing) the above example, I remembered a similar scene from a movie that I've seen a while ago.
It goes like this: The hero is watching TV while munching something with one leg crossed over another and casually swaying it. The hero's father sees this and gets irritated. Starts scolding him for wasting time watching TV.
Hero's father : Why dont you study for your exams instead of wasting your time watching TV
Hero : What will I get if I study hard?
Hero's father: If you study hard, you'll get good scores
Hero : What will happen if I get good scores?
Hero's father : If you get good scores, you'll get a good job
Hero : What after getting a good job?
Hero's father : If you get a good job, you can lead a comfortable life without any worries. Then you can happily sit with one leg crossed over another
Hero : What am I doing now?
Hearing this father goes mum, with his mouth wide open.
Leaving the funny part aside (if there's any), the underlying point is that very few people really keep in mind the end objective while performing any task and sometimes they don't even know the end objective. Little do they realize that there could be many ways in achieving that end objective and tend to follow the same tried and tested process in reaching that objective. After going through the entire process & reaching that end objective, they feel in retrospect that it could have been done in a better and easier way.
So the question remains- Is it better to focus on the means to reach the end (or) focus on the end and then look for means to reach it. It might sound a bit cliche, but my answer would be 'It depends'. But in most cases, the second principle is much better & logical way and I'm sure that most people agree with me, but ironically we all (atleast most of us) tend to follow the first principle. Life would be much simpler & easier if we focus on the end and look for means to achieve.
So here goes the title of my first post 'everythingboilsdowntosomething'.
